Description: This workshop delves into the clinical management of ingrowing toenails (onychocryptosis), covering both the theory and technique of management. Participants will study the anatomy of the nail unit and explore the biomechanical factors contributing to nail growth abnormalities. Special emphasis will be placed on techniques used to relieve pain and prevent the recurrence of ingrowing toenails. The workshop will cover post-operative care to ensure proper healing and minimise complications.
Key Learning Outcomes:
- Anatomy and Pathology Insight: Gain an in-depth understanding of toenail anatomy and the pathophysiology behind ingrowing toenails, including the role of biomechanical factors in their development.
- Non-Surgical Management: Explore non-invasive options. These are particularly useful for patients who cannot undergo surgery, including those with diabetes, children, or patients with needle phobia.
- Post Care: Master post-care techniques to minimise discomfort. Learn how to prevent complications and reduce the recurrence of ingrowing toenails through patient education on nail care and proper footwear.
